George Washington by Matthew Harris Jouett

Jouett was born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and
maintained a studio in Lexington at various
times.  He died in Fayette County and is buried
in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville
.

William Edward West was born in
Lexington, Kentucky.  The figure on the
left was painted from a photograph,
because she was deceased at the time
of the painting.
Bourbon County Saddle Horses:  Tradition of
Champions
July 7 - September 3, 2006
Bourbon County Saddle Horses:  
Tradition of Champions.  This exhibit
documented the history of Bourbon
Countians' involvement in the saddle
horse industry since the breed was
developed in the mid 19th century.  This
history was displayed in photographs,
paintings, prints, and memorabilia.
Many of the best known saddle horse
farms in the United States were located
within a three mile radius of North
Middletown in northeast Bourbon County.
Famous breeders included A.G. Jones and
Sons, Robert G. Jones, J.W. and Stoddard
Young, Collins and Redmon, Biederman
and DeAtley, H.S. Caywood and son, and
E.K. Thomas.
Bourbon King
Winner of the 1905 Grosvenor Cup from the
Louisville Horse Show Association.  The
trophy is shown below.
Tools of the Trade featured historic tools used in Kentucky.  The tools
displayed were used to clear the land, build houses, construct furniture,
make cloth and clothing, produce shoes, care for animals, and forge
tools and other implements.
An early portable forge was featured along with other tools used by a
blacksmith.
