SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: A Weekend of Jazz: Celebrating the Music of Bill Coleman
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to everyone who has purchased a ticket to our Saturday live jazz event! We are currently SOLD OUT for this event\, but will begin a waiting list. If you would like to be notified when or if a ticket becomes available please email info@hopewellmuseum.org with the subject “Jazz Event Waiting List” and your information.  \n  \nJoin us for a weekend of jazz celebrating Bill Coleman. Born in Centerville\, Bourbon County\, in 1904\, Bill Coleman would go on to become a successful jazz trumpeter who performed professionally for many decades beginning in the 1920s. Coleman would perform with such jazz stars as Louis Armstrong\, Ella Fitzgerald\, and Django Reinhardt and would play around the United States\, Europe\, and India. He moved permanently to Paris\, France in the late 1940s where he continued to live until his death in the 80s. He published his own autobiography\, Trumpet Story\, with the aid of his wife shortly before his death. \nThe Hopewell Museum\, along with our title sponsor Siena Farm\, present a weekend of jazz celebrating Bill Coleman and his music. Our weekend begins with a free scholar’s talk with Dr. George Wright at the Paris-Bourbon Library. Wright is a history professor at the University of Kentucky where he also serves as Senior Advisor to the president of the university and as Vice President for Institutional Diversity. Dr. Wright will speak about the history of African Americans in early 20th Century Kentucky placing Bill Coleman within this context\, as well as about the history of the Jazz Age.   \nOn Saturday\, July 23 we bring you an evening of live jazz at the Paris Livery\, one of downtown Paris’s newest event venues. This intimate evening will feature live jazz from the Walnut Street Ramblers\, Louisville Jazz Initiative\, and the Keith McCutchen Ensemble along with featured vocalist and Paris\, Ky native Mary Jackson. Dinner is provided and a cash bar available. \nA portion of the proceeds will go to the Garrett Morgan Fund. If you are interested in sponsoring this event please contact Cheryl Caskey at info@hopewellmuseum.org or 859-987-7274. \nDr. George Wright Scholar’s Talk: July 22\, 5:30 PM at the Paris-Bourbon Library. Light refreshments. FREE \nJazz Event: July 23\, 6 PM at the Paris Livery. Advance tickets required: $40 per person. Limited seating available.  \n\n
